Back at quilting after the holidays

Hi everyone, we (Willunga Quilters)  have had a very long rest over the Christmas period & are now back at the Uniting Church Hall. We have had almost 2 months holiday! 

Our first meeting for 2011, was Saturday 5th February. It was great to see 3 new members. A big welcome to Joy, Delvene & Jenny!

We had a little hiccup with some members (mainly me) wanting to spread out a bit more & use the big hall, but it all settled down quickly. I am a bit claustrophobic to say the least. I also take a lot of different projects along & I need lots of room to spread it all out - the big hall is ideal. I have never liked the cramped space of the smaller room, especially once we get more than about 16 members attending. Give me the open spaces & fresh air anytime!

We had a very long meeting/discussion, but there were many things to talk about after 8 weeks off! Several members are keen to attend the Quilters' Guild Country Forum in March.
We also talked about the Queensland flood (well DISASTER) victims & hope to be able to make suitable contributions to those who have lost so much. Margaret Maynard showed us 2 quilts she has recently made for the Gawler flood victims. Given that 40 homes were flooded in our own state, we have decided to help those people BEFORE we set about helping out the Queensland victims.

A list has been passed around so that members can go through their supplies & bring along/donate various items for redistribution or for quilt making.


Louise brought up a few points at the meeting which are well worth noting (if I can remember them that is!)

• Louise proposed that all items which need to be paid for out of our funds, must first be approved for purchase by the committee.
• She also proposed that all members equally participate in setting up & cleaning up when we have future functions.
• It was also voted on that instead of going out to lunch for our birthday celebration every November, we have a nice afternoon tea & a birthday cake. This was suggested because our Christmas party is always right "on top" of the birthday lunch & it can all be a bit too expensive.

I know there was more, but old age prevents me from remembering what she said! I should have made notes!

No-one was interested in taking up my offer to do another BOM  project (with foundation piecing). Nevermind!  When you see how gorgeous my blocks are, you will all be very jealous!

I hope to find the time to post some photos of our recent exhibition soon. It was a great success. but a lot of work as usual!
